01The territory

Aloy explores a far-future world where nature has reclaimed the ruins and robotic creatures graze the plains. You hunt machines with bows and traps, override some to ride them, and slowly uncover what happened to the old world.

02Who should travel here

Players who like a clear story, tactical hunting and a map that opens up in neat stages.

ATallnecks

Each region has a giant long-necked machine walking a slow loop. Climbing one reveals the whole surrounding area. It is the classic "tower" idea, turned into a small puzzle each time.

BRiding machines

Override a Strider or Charger and you have a mount. It makes crossing the map quicker and gives you a companion in fights.

CRemastered

The 2024 remaster improves lighting, faces and detail and includes The Frozen Wilds, a snowy expansion region in the north.

Worth the trip

  • Unique machine creatures
  • Memorable story and setting
  • Map reveals feel earned

Rough ground

  • Side quests are traditional
  • Climbing can feel guided

Surveyor's verdict
